Tropical Disturbance in Atlantic Has 50% Chance of Developing Into Cyclone
Updated August 19, 2025 at 12:32 PM
Forecasters at the U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC) are keeping a close watch on a tropical disturbance in the Atlantic that currently has a 50% chance of developing into a tropical cyclone over the next seven days.

The system, designated Disturbance 1, is moving through an area of warm ocean waters and moderate atmospheric conditions, which could support further organization. While it is not yet a tropical storm, meteorologists caution that the disturbance could strengthen if conditions remain favorable.
At this stage, forecasters say the potential cyclone poses no immediate threat to land, but residents of islands and coastal areas in the Caribbean and western Atlantic are encouraged to monitor updates regularly.
