Updated August 19, 2025 at 12:32 PM

Two government employees have each been awarded $50,000 in damages after suffering long-term injuries in separate workplace accidents, according to a report in the Daily Observer.
Immigration Officer Julie Osborne was injured in 2019 when she tripped over a torn carpet at the Immigration Department, leaving her with ongoing complications in her dominant right hand.

Meanwhile, Nakita Brown, a Senior Legal Officer at the Social Security Board, was hurt in 2018 after falling down stairs at her workplace. She continues to experience pain in her shoulder, neck, and arm, which has affected both her work and home life.
The High Court found both employers negligent and ordered compensation for pain and suffering.
