AUA Launches Free Bootcamp Offering Direct Pathway to Medical School

The programme, which begins on June 16 and runs through July 1, is designed to guide secondary school graduates and prospective students through the academic pathway that can lead to a medical degree in as little as six years.

Hosted online via Zoom, the bootcamp will feature six 30-minute sessions held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 6 p.m. Participants will receive an overview of AUACAS, learn about student life and academic expectations, hear from current students and graduates, and receive information on admissions and financial aid opportunities.

According to AUACAS, students can complete an Associate of Science in Health Sciences in two years before advancing directly to the American University of Antigua College of Medicine (AUACOM) through a Fast Track admissions pathway. This allows students to begin medical school sooner and complete their Doctor of Medicine degree after an additional four years of study.

The bootcamp schedule includes sessions on June 16, 17, 23, 24 and 30, as well as July 1. Organizers say the final session will include a live application workshop aimed at helping students navigate the admissions process.

Students who successfully complete the programme will receive a certificate of completion, a US$750 tuition grant upon matriculation, a readiness assessment, and support from a dedicated admissions counsellor.

To qualify for admission to AUACAS, applicants must have completed coursework in English, Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry. The institution also offers a CARICOM pathway for students who possess a fifth-form diploma and the required CSEC examination passes.

The university noted that tuition grants are available for eligible students from Antigua and Barbuda, Montserrat, South Asia and other countries.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to participate alongside students to learn more about the educational opportunities and support services available through the programme.
